I chose BH Support for my placement as I knew I would gain a completely unique experience compared to traditional firms. I was so eager to be able to work directly with clients and throw myself into the unknown. The members of the company were so welcoming and it had such a good feel on my induction day that I knew it was the correct place for me.

I can’t describe how thankful I am for the opportunities that I have had since undertaking a placement at BH Support. The transferrable skills I have acquired since my first day have been invaluable and I know that they will aid me in my future endeavours. I fervently believe that the opportunity to be able to work with a plethora of people from all different backgrounds has enabled me to get a first-hand experience into a typical day for those who work in the law sector.

BH Support embodies all the values I would look for if I were a client in need. The urge to help those who are struggling and don’t have the confidence to speak up, to those who have rehabilitated themselves and need support through the Family Court. I think that is what I have found the most rewarding about my placement with BH Support, the transformation of clients in terms of self-belief and overall confidence and the journey of growth that we also experience with them.

There have been some challenging times, for example having to produce lengthy position statements and documents for urgent cases in just days. I believe swift deadlines have strengthened my written work hugely, especially my ability to be concise.  The supportive team around me has also made these tight turnovers so much easier, I never hesitate to ask questions and be generally inquisitive and I love that we are encouraged to do so.

My time at BH Support has also revealed to me how much I enjoy Family Law, particularly Child Arrangements. Working closely with clients to ensure children know where home is has been so important to me. Experiencing different situations, family dynamics and complications has also helped me open my mind.

I would advise all Law Students to apply to BH Support and take the placement if it is offered. It develops you so much as a person, there is an amazing core team who will go above and beyond to push you to be your absolute best and they are an amazing support system if you ever feel overwhelmed. I will be gutted when my placement year ends as I have been made to feel such a vital part of the team. It is an experience I will never forget.
